Travel Agent Q&A

Annie 02/01/2016

Today is Ask An Agent day and we thought we would do just that! The Carpe Diem Travel team has extensive knowledge on all forms of travel and they are here to help you!

Cathy Worthington:

Cathy started her career as a corporate agent in Buffalo, expanded to owning her own agency for 10 years, then went on to work in the motorcoach industry for over 7 years and has now come full circle back to the travel agency side of travel at Carpe Diem Travel. With over 30 years’ experience in the travel industry everyone tells her “travel” is in her blood forever.

1) Why should I use a travel agent?

Travel agents have knowledge of the industry and trends which is critical during the planning phase of any vacation or business travel. The personal service that you receive using a travel agent is parallel to none and will put your mind at ease knowing that you are getting exactly what you want.

2) Can you save money by using a travel agent?

YES! Travel agents have access to a variety of specials and deals that are not advertised by the vendors. In addition to discounted pricing they will track your trip for you and if the fare drops they can typically get the reservation repriced.

3) What is the benefit of booking with a travel agent rather than a discount site?

A REAL person to turn to; most of our preferred vendors will price match apples for apples from discounted sites!

4) When is the best time to book travel?

On average I would recommend booking your travel 6 months in advance. The best flight times tend to go quickly so it is best to secure these in advance. For holiday travel you may want to extend the window out 9 to 10 months.

5) Should I purchase trip insurance?

YES,YES a 1000 times yes – unforeseen things can happen, jury duty, illness, weather delays and you want to protect your investment!

6) What is your favorite spot to travel to?

I personal like cruises – a few destinations, unpack once, do as much or as little as you like. I loved my Alaskan Cruise and Land tour. I try to go someplace I have not been at least once a year.

Diana Mangione:

Diana went to Finger Lakes Community College where she obtained her Associates Degree for Travel & Tourism back in 1990.  She is a certified Travel Consultant with over twenty-five years’ experience in the Travel Industry.  She is a specialist in Corporate Travel.  As our corporate specialist, she can assist you with airline tickets, car rentals, and hotel reservations. She also books leisure travel and has certifications in Sandals/Beaches, Bermuda and Jamaica.  She has traveled quite extensively in the U.S. and the Caribbean.

1) Why should I use a travel agent?

You are gaining the experience and the knowledge of the travel agent; by using a travel agent you have the support the whole way through until you return home from your trip.

2) Can you save money by using a travel agent?

Travel Agents get information on specials ahead of time, a travel agent can tell you when the best time of year to travel to your destination. This will help you not only save money but time!

3) What is the benefit of booking with a travel agent rather than a discount site?

We can help you make changes, if there is a cancelled flight we can assist you in find a new flight option.  More times than not discount sites will not be able to help you with changes or delays in flights; they would refer you to the airline or hotel directly.

4) When is the best time to book travel?

As soon as you know your dates, that is the best time to start the planning process.

5) Should I purchase trip insurance?

We highly recommend taking trip insurance being that it would cover so much including flights, pre-existing conditions, death of immediate family member, and much more.

6) What is your favorite spot to travel to?

I love traveling all together especially if it is somewhere I haven’t been before.  Been to many islands in the Caribbean as well as many cruises.  Our current favorite spot is vacationing for 2 weeks in Black Lake, NY (approx. a half hour from Alexandria Bay, NY)
